Joint Media Statement of the Ministerial Interface Meeting 2022 on Sustainable Development Agenda under The ASEAN Economic Community (AEC)

The Interface Meeting between the ASEAN Economic Community Council Ministers, ASEAN Agriculture and Forestry Ministers, ASEAN Energy Ministers and ASEAN Transport Ministers was held on 9th November 2022 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The Meeting was chaired by Cambodia. The Meeting exchanged views on the global drive for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the mounting pressure to address climate change issues across the whole spectrum of the economy. The Meeting noted ASEAN’s initiatives in advancing sustainable development in the economic sector, while taking into account the respective policies and international commitments of each AMS, particularly the progress achieved in energy, food, agriculture, forestry (FAF), and transportation sector, as well as the implementation of the Framework for Circular Economy for the AEC. The Meeting recognised the need to build on the momentum and to take a whole-of-ASEAN approach in driving the agenda to achieve sustainable development in the region. Statement of the Chair of the Special ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting 27 October 2022, ASEAN Secretariat, Jakarta

On the morning of 27 October 2022, His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister PRAK Sokhonn, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, chaired the Special ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting at the ASEAN Secretariat to deliberate on ways to better implement the Five-Point Consensus (5PC) endorsed by the ASEAN Leaders' Meeting on 24 April 2021 and to propose recommendations the ASEAN Leaders’ consideration at the 40th and 41st ASEAN Summits. A non-political representative from Myanmar was invited to the Meeting; however, the invitation was met with no positive response.

Chairman’s Statement of the ASEAN Post Ministerial Conference (PMC) 10+1 Sessions with the Dialogue Partners and Trilateral Meetings

The ASEAN Post Ministerial Conference (PMC) 10+1 Sessions with ASEAN’s Dialogue Partners, namely Australia, Canada, China, the European Union, India, Japan, New Zealand, the Republic of Korea, the Russian Federation, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America and two separate Trilateral Meetings between Cambodia and ASEAN Secretariat with Türkiye and Switzerland were held in Phnom Penh, Kingdom of Cambodia, on 3-4 August 2022.   ASEAN and its Dialogue Partners reviewed their relations over the past year and reiterated their commitment to further strengthening their partnership and cooperation through effective implementation of their respective Plans of Action and existing frameworks. ASEAN also highlighted several milestones in its relations with some of its Dialogue Partners, including the ASEAN-China Special Summit to Commemorate the 30th Anniversary of ASEAN-China Dialogue Relations on 22 November 2021, the physical convening of the ASEAN-U.S. Special Summit in Washington, D.C. on 12-13 May 2022, the Special ASEAN-India Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in celebration of the 30th Anniversary of the ASEAN-India Dialogue Relations in New Delhi on 16 June 2022, and agreeing the ASEAN-Australia and ASEAN-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in October 2021.     Download the full statement here

Chairman’s Statement of The 23rd ASEAN Plus Three Foreign Ministers’ Meeting

The 23rd ASEAN Plus Three Foreign Ministers’ Meeting was held on 4 August 2022 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, and chaired by His Excellency PRAK Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cambodia.     Review and Future Direction of ASEAN Plus Three (APT) Cooperation     The Meeting reaffirmed the importance of the APT process as a main vehicle to promote peace, stability and cooperation in East Asia towards the long-term goal of building an East Asian community, with ASEAN as the driving force. The Meeting reiterated the commitment to further strengthening and deepening the APT functional cooperation under the APT process. The Meeting further underlined that the APT process continued to play mutually reinforcing and complementary roles with other ASEAN-led frameworks. The Meeting also recognised the contribution of the APT to ASEAN’s efforts towards realising the ASEAN Community Vision 2025 and deepening regional integration in East Asia. The Meeting noted the importance of the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP) as a guide for ASEAN’s engagement in the wider Asia-Pacific and Indian Ocean regions.     Download the full statement here

JOINT COMMUNIQUÉ OF THE 55th ASEAN FOREIGN MINISTERS’ MEETING 3 August 2022

1. The 55th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM) was held on 3 August 2022 in Phnom Penh, Kingdom of Cambodia. The Meeting was chaired by Cambodia under the theme “ASEAN A.C.T.: Addressing Challenges Together.” We reaffirmed ASEAN’s commitment to address our common challenges and to sustain the momentum of ASEAN’s community-building efforts with a strong sense of togetherness. We also discussed the need to further strengthen engagement and cooperation with Dialogue Partners and external partners, including through existing ASEAN-led mechanisms, and the importance of ASEAN Centrality, credibility and relevance in maintaining peace, stability, and prosperity in our regional and global endeavours amidst uncertainty and rapid changes in Southeast Asia and beyond. Press Statement by the Chairman of the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Retreat (AMM Retreat)

1. The ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Retreat was convened on 16-17 February 2022 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, in hybrid format. The Retreat was the first major meeting of the year under Cambodia’s ASEAN Chairmanship in 2022 with the theme “ASEAN A.C.T.: Addressing Challenges Together”. 2. We had fruitful deliberations on ASEAN’s priorities for the year of 2022 and on concrete and implementable ways to strengthen the ASEAN Community, ASEAN Centrality, and unity, as well as ASEAN external partnerships. We also exchanged views on regional and international developments and reaffirmed our shared commitment towards promoting sustainable peace, security, stability, prosperity, within and beyond the region. 3. We expressed support for Cambodia’s key priorities and deliverables in 2022, which are in line with the goals of ASEAN Community building and continue to build upon ongoing efforts of the previous ASEAN Chairmanship priorities.
