Handover Ceremony of Chinese Government’s Contribution of COVID-19 Vaccines to ASEAN for Myanmar

On 30 June 2022, as part of the implementation of the ASEAN Five-Point Consensus adopted at the ASEAN Leaders’ Meeting on 24 April 2021, His Excellency PRAK Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Kingdom of Cambodia and the Special Envoy of the ASEAN Chair,  His Excellency Ekkaphab PHANTHAVONG, Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC), who represented His Excellency Dato Lim Jock Hoi, the Secretary-General of ASEAN and the ASEAN Humanitarian Assistance Coordinator (SG-AHAC), and His Excellency CHEN Hai, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Myanmar, attended the Handover Ceremony of Chinese Government’s Contribution of COVID-19 Vaccines to ASEAN for Myanmar in Yangon.

On the morning of 24 June 2022, His Excellency LUY David, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and Chair of the National Secretariat for the Preparation of ASEAN 2022, briefed on the Preparation of the 55th AMM and Related Meetings to diplomatic corps of the participating countries, at the Ministry. During the diplomatic briefing, the issues of security arrangements, medical and health measures, as well as media arrangements were also presented by representatives of relevant institutions.

H.E Sim Vireak, Director General of ASEAN, as a Chair of ASEAN SOM, co-chaired the 1st Meeting of the ASEAN Disaster Resilience Platform (ADRP) via videoconference

In the afternoon of June 23, 2022, H.E Sim Vireak, Director General of ASEAN, as a Chair of ASEAN SOM, co-chaired the 1st Meeting of the ASEAN Disaster Resilience Platform (ADRP) via videoconference, with the participation of 13 ASEAN Sectoral Bodies, including ASEAN Secretariat and AHA Center. The Meeting adopted the Terms of Reference (TOR) of the ASEAN Disaster Resilience Platform and discussed and exchanged view on the Common Resilience Challenges and Potential Areas of Collaboration aim at strengthening the humanitarian assistance and disaster management in the region.

On the evening of 8 June 2022, H.E. EAT Sophea, Secretary of State and ASEAN SOM Leader of Cambodia, chaired the East Asia Summit Senior Officials' Meeting (EAS SOM) via videoconference, participated by 18 EAS Participating Countries. The Meeting discussed various issues under the EAS framework, including the progress in implementing the Manila Plan of Action (2018-2022), the ongoing drafting of the new East Asia Summit (EAS) Plan of Action (2023-2027), and the preparation for the upcoming 12th East Asia Summit Foreign Ministers’ Meeting to be held on 5 August 2022, Kingdom of Cambodia. The Meeting also exchanged views on regional and international developments of common concerns and interests.

The Meeting discussed the progress in the Implementation of the Plan of Action (POA) of the Treaty on SEANWFZ, the renewal of the Plan of Action of the SEANWFZ Treaty, and ways forward on the Protocol to the SEANWFZ Treaty.

On the morning of May 31, 2022, His Excellency PRAK Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Kingdom of Cambodia, delivered the keynote address at the workshop on "Cambodia's Contribution to ASEAN Since Its Inception in 1999" at Hyatt Regency Hotel, Phnom Penh. The workshop was co-organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the Asia Vision Institute. The workshop aims to foster greater public awareness about ASEAN, especially, to collect and highlight Cambodia’s contributions to ASEAN integration and community building, the benefits to its people, and to the stability, peace, and prosperity in the region.

The 36th Meeting of the ASEAN-China Joint Working Group on the Implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea (JWG-DOC)

Cambodia hosted the 36th Meeting of the ASEAN-China Joint Working Group on the Implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea (JWG-DOC) from 25-27 May 2022 in Siem Reap, Cambodia. The Meeting was co-chaired by Myanmar and China, and emphasized on the negotiations of the Code of Conduct in the South China Sea. It was the first physical meeting since the Covid-19 outbreak over 2 years ago.

His Excellency SIM Vireak, Director General of ASEAN General Department co-chaired ASEAN Regional Forum Inter-Sessional Support Group Meeting on Confidence-Building Measures and Preventive Diplomacy via Videoconference.

On the morning of 17 May 2022, H.E. Mr. SIM Vireak, Director General of the ASEAN General Department, together with People's Republic of China, co-chaired the “ASEAN Regional Forum Inter-Sessional Support Group Meeting on Confidence-Building Measures and Preventive Diplomacy (ARF ISG on CBMs and PD)” via Videoconference to discuss related issues, including ICTs Security, Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crime, Maritime Security, Non-Proliferation and Disarmament, Disaster Relief, Peacekeeping, and Preventive Diplomacy. The Meeting also deliberated on new initiatives, including the ARF Statement on Promoting Peace, Stability and Prosperity in the Region through Preventive Diplomacy and ARF’s Future Direction.
